In a testament to Ford's dedication to being an industry leader in innovation, the automaker recently announced a new exciting engine option for the upcoming 2017 Ford F-150. The 3.5-liter EcoBoost engine delivers 50 pound-feet more torque than its predecessor, improving to 470 pound-feet--more than all diesel- and gasoline-powered competitors, including V-8 engines with nearly twice the displacement.
Paired to the new engine is the first volume-produced 10-speed automatic transmission available from any automaker. Performance and acceleration are improved over standard six-speed transmission, and better low-end and peak engine performance deliver increased payload and towing capacities.
“The 2017 Ford F-150 now delivers the best torque in the segment,” says Raj Nair, Ford executive vice president, Product Development, and chief technical officer. “This class-leading torque arrives with a transformative 10-speed automatic that improves nearly every aspect of F-150 performance.”
Still the only truck in its segment to offer a twin-turbo gasoline engine, the 2017 Ford F-150 begins arriving in dealerships this fall.
